Facelifts are performed by removing sagging skin around the neck and face and are performed under general anaesthesia and normally take between four and six hours. An overnight stay at the hospital is also required.
The procedure involves an incision being made in or behind the hairline, tracing from the front of the ear, between each ear and the cheek, ending behind the ear and hairline.
The skin is separated very carefully from the muscle and fat layers, and muscles and tissues are then tightened. Excess fat is removed via liposuction or by being trimmed. Sometimes, excess fat from the front of the neck is also removed during the facelift, via a small incision below the chin. The facial skin is then pulled back toward the incisions, and the remaining excess skin is removed.
