Filling the cheek area with dermal filler is an effective treatment with minimal downtime.

The aim of cheek filler is to provide volume and lift to cheekbones for patients who have low or subtle cheekbones. The added filler creates the effect of more prominent and striking cheekbones which are viewed as attractive features. What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers work by imitating a naturally occurring substance within your body – a sugar molecule that exists naturally in almost all living organisms. It is also important for the transport of nutrients and in regulating water balance in skin. By boosting your skin with this naturally occurring substance, dermal fillers revitalise and add volume to the area instantly. This diminishes the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and gives a natural softer look. The gel we use is very tissue-friendly and closely resembles that which exists in the body.

What is involved?

The treatment involves thoroughly cleaning the area first. A topical anesthetic will be first applied for your comfort. The treating doctor or nurse will then do a series of injections into the area using our bespoke technique which means we inject the fillers in a way to enhance your natural features. You will then be explained the aftercare.

Your filler appointment will take about 45 minutes from start to finish. As soon as the series of injections is completed, you can go back to your regular activities. 

At One Cosmetic, we use only the most advanced range of Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers that are available in the Australian market. These products also contain lidocaine, which means that the treated areas are numbed simultaneously during treatment, improving the overall treatment experience for the patient. Your injector will then gently massage the fillers to soften the product.

Risks
As always, there is risk involved with every treatment. At One Cosmetic we like our patients to be aware of risks and be well educated on the treatments they are undergoing. The risks associated with lip filler treatments are:
  • This occurs when filler is injected into or around an artery, causing blood flow to be reduced or stop. Skin may look pale (blanched) and start to turn blue over a period of 24 hours. This is usually painful and, if untreated, the skin may start to ‘die’ and turn black.
  • Filler migration
  • Skin discolouration
  • Bacterial infection
  • Viral infection
  • Ulceration of the skin where you were injected
  • Lumps (nodules) forming under the skin
  • Allergic reaction
  • Permanent disfigurement and scarring
  • Haematoma (a collection of blood under the skin or in the deeper tissues)
  • Weakness of the muscles of the face, head and neck, which can have undesirable effects on swallowing, vocal cord function and eye movements (double vision)
  • inflammatory reactions – especially associated with unregistered dermal filler products which may require surgery to remove.

No, our team is selective in who they treat. Below is a guide of patients who may not be suitable for treatment

  • Active skin disease, inflammation or skin related problems. 
  • Pregnant, breast-feeding or women trying to conceive a child
  • Individuals with medical conditions that lower the body’s immune response or individuals undergoing therapy that is immunosuppressive may be more prone to infection by a skin injection procedure
  • Patients on Accutane 

Our team will guide you through the treatment process, however normally 1-2mls  is the acceptable amount of product per treatment.

Cheek fillers last anywhere from 12-18 months. The body will break down the product over a number of months. Every patient’s body will do this at a different rate, hence the varied longevity.

Dr. Louis Wessels

Dr. Louis Wessels is a highly qualified specialist plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgeon with a particular focus on breast and body surgery, including liposuction.

 

His practice encompasses the full spectrum of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, with special expertise in breast surgery. These include primary and revision breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast lift, and tuberous breast reconstruction, as well as body contouring procedures such as abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and liposuction.

 

Dr. Wessels completed his medical degree (MBChB) in South Africa, followed by internship and general surgery training in one of the most demanding clinical environments. He subsequently completed both his Fellowship and Master of Medicine in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in South Africa, gaining extensive experience across complex reconstructive and cosmetic procedures.

 

He later completed a second Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Sydney, Australia, and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2015. Dr. Wessels has published internationally recognised research on breast implant infection and outcomes following breast augmentation surgery.

 

He subsequently graduated from Macquarie University in the inaugural intake of the Master of Advanced Surgery (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery), for which he was awarded a scholarship from Johnson & Johnson.
