PIGMENTATION REMOVAL

ALL ABOUT
PIGMENTATION REMOVAL

Laser pigmentation removal is a non-invasive treatment that effectively and quickly removes unwanted pigmentation. Ultraviolet solar radiation is responsible for the appearance of freckles and sunspots on the skin. Pastelle Q Switch technology selectively target the dark pigment in the skin, breaking it down. The body then re-absorbs and excretes this through a natural processes.

Pigmentation disorders are often more challenging in skin of colour. Common pigmented skin conditions treated routinely at One Cosmetic include:

  • Flat Moles, Freckles & Sun Spots
  • Hormonal Pigmentation (Malasma)
  • Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)
  • Becker Naevus
  • Poikiloderma Of Civatte

Compared with traditional lasers, Q switched laser treatments are:

  • Safe for most skin types
  • Higher safety profile
  • Less painful
  • No downtime

how does it work?

Laser removal of pigmented lesions works by destroying the pigment in the skin without the need for excision.

This process in completed in 3 simple steps.

Step 1 – LIGHT ABSORPTION:
The laser produces short nanosecond pulses of intense light that pass harmlessly through the top layers of the skin to be selectively absorbed by the melanin pigment in the lesion.

Step 2 – PIGMENT BREAK-UP:
The laser light is transformed into photoacoustic waves which mechanically break up the melanin pigment into smaller particles.

Step 3 – PIGMENT REMOVAL:
These particles are then removed by the body’s own immune system, as the skin’s macro-phages clear the excess pigment from the area.

Generally 4-6 weeks and once the skin healing phase Post laser has passed. The pigmented spots will appear darker for 7-14 days after treatment. They will gently flake away in the following days.

Generally 1-2 treatments are required to lift the epidermal pigment. If the pigment is melasma in origin and lies deeper in the dermal tissue layer 4-6 treatments will be required, 4-6 weeks apart.

It is strongly advised to avoid the sun indefinitely after this treatment due to the knowledge that the UV light stimulates leaking pigment from the skin cells. The minimum amount of time to avoid the sun is 4-6 weeks whilst the skin is healing. A physical SPFG must be worn at all times during the treatment and healing phase.
