The innovative Alma Hybrid encompasses three essential elements in one device: CO2 for superior resurfacing; 1570nm for thermal remodelling of collagen; and sonophoresis for trans epidermal drug delivery. What are the benefits of CO2 therapy?

The CO2 Fractional Laser is an effective anti-ageing and skin remodelling laser treatment. It uses a wavelength with the capability to pass through the epidermis (superficial layer of skin) and the dermis (deeper layer of the skin), which produces regeneration from the deeper skin layers. It is an ablative system where the top layer of the skin is ablated and requires some time to heal over. The purpose of treatment will dictate how many treatments are needed.

What is involved?

No matter what you’re treating with C02, the treatment process will be the same. We will throughly cleanse the skin, apply a compounded topical numbing cream, which will sit on the skin for 20-30 minutes while you enjoy a water or coffee in clinic.

Once ready, the laser treatment will take 20 minutes in total. Post treatment we do recommend purchasing an IS Clinical Pure Care Collection for all post treatment skincare requirements.

CO2 laser resurfacing effectively treats:

 

  • Fine lines and wrinkles — CO2 laser treatments diminish the appearance of laugh lines, crow’s feet (which develop under and around the eyes) and wrinkles on the forehead, offering a smoother skin texture.
  • Sun-damaged skin — CO2 laser resurfacing rejuvenates sun-damaged skin. Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light can lead to noticeable signs of ageing, such as sagging, fine lines, sun spots and rough and uneven skin texture.
  • Acne scars — By stimulating collagen production, CO2 fractional laser therapy can help smoothen and tighten acne scars.

The process involves using a CO2 fractional laser to eliminate the outermost layer of the skin while warming the underlying skin. This process encourages the production of new collagen fibres. As the outer skin layer heals and regenerates, the skin that has been treated becomes firmer and clearer.

CO2 laser resurfacing might induce a mild sensation of discomfort, often likened to the feeling of “pins and needles”. Rest assured, we prioritise our patients’ safety and comfort throughout the entire procedure.

Like any medical procedure, there are risks associated with a CO2 laser treatment. During your consultation your provider will make an assessment to ensure that you are the right candidate for the CO2 laser treatment. If you experience any worrisome side effects after treatment, please call the practice immediately.

Before your CO2 laser resurfacing appointment, you should refrain from using a tanning salon or tanning under the sun for at least 4 weeks. When you venture under the sun, make sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against all wavelengths of UV rays. Also, please avoid any chemical peel treatments for 4 weeks before your laser appointment. 


Make sure to discuss any medication you are taking with our team during your consultation. We may advise you to adjust or to pause certain medications before your procedure, such as medication that increases photosensitivity for a few days.

Combining Morpheus8 and C02 creates a powerhouse treatment as we can treat all depths of the skin. From the superficial layers, all the way down to the deeper subcutaneous tissue, with only one session you will notice an improved skin texture, tone and superficial tightening. For optimal results we recommend a package of three treatments. 

One to two months after your treatment, you will notice a decrease in lines and wrinkles as collagen begins to fill them in. The full effects usually appear within three to six months following the initial session. Dr. Louis Wessels

Dr Wessels is a cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgeon and is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of Macquarie University.

His practice covers the whole range of procedures in cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery with special emphasis on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast (augmentation, reduction and breast lift) as well as facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

Dr Wessels received his MBChB in South Africa, completing his internship and general surgery residency, training in one of the most challenging clinical environments, before completing his Fellowship and his Master of Medicine in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr Wessels successfully completed his second Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery when he was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015. He has published world leading research on breast implant infection and outcomes following breast augmentation surgery.
